If you buy or
install packing rings, you might be interested in an inspection
that was conducted in our plant in March 2004. A customer provided
us with an OEM sample of rod packing to duplicate. This packing
was a Radial/Tangent (R/T) pair with a back up ring – and,
all 3 rings were made from Bronze Moly Teflon.
We manufactured the packing rings, and discovered
a difference between the finished parts. The above photos show the
results of a “Light Test” that is part of our inspection
process, photo on the left is the OEM, photo on the right is our
product.
This type of packing is pressure activated, and
leaks at the tangent joints will not prevent the OEM product from
working. However, the comparison does give an indication of our
attention to detail on packing rings.
